I first injured my back in 1995 and in the intervening 20 years have experienced a few more episodes, some more painful than others ( herniated discs). X-Rays, CT scans, painkillers and physiotherapy became almost a way of life. Then about 6 years ago I was advised to try Pilates. I wish I’d known about this 20 years ago! My core strength has increased a great deal, my posture and balance have also improved. All these factors help me to manage my back without recourse to painkillers which were beginning to upset my stomach.
I now regard my weekly Pilates session as an inexpensive medical insurance policy, but also as an enjoyable means of useful exercise”.
